History

Community Training & Employment Resources was founded in 2008 by Mamie Brown, vice president of HSBC Bank USA, now retired, with the purpose of preparing people to become successful job seekers and employees. Well known for her successful training programs in the financial services sector, Mamie has directed community training and employment programs for New York City residents for over 20 years.

The first CTER program launched in October 2008. It was hosted by the Bronx Christian Fellowship Church in the Bronx, New York. In 2009, the program expanded to New York City's Workforce1 Career Centers. Currently CTER programs and workshops operate at convenient TD Bank locations.

CTER began with a dedicated group of forty professionals who served as trainers, mentors, curriculum developers, and Advisory Board Members.

Organizations such as the Association for Talent Development, Association for Executive Search Consultants, New York City SHRM, and Urban Financial Services Coalition were among CTER's early affiliates.

With the support of its network of professional trainers and mentors and a growing list of affiliated organizations and business partners, CTER continues to expand its programming to serve the needs of NYC employers and job seekers.

CTER staff and members of the training group were very helpful in the areas of job search, resume writing, interview skills, and improving my customer service skills. I am glad I found this opportunity. The CTER training was a positive experience; it enhanced my skills and made me feel comfortable and confident in applying for another position with my current employer. Donna Joseph, CTER Graduate
