Community Training & Employment Resources was founded in 2008 by Mamie Brown, Vice President of HSBC Bank USA, now retired, with the purpose of preparing people to become successful job seekers and employees. Well known for her successful training programs in the financial services sector, Mamie has directed community training and employment programs for New York City residents for over 25 years.

CTER began in October 2008 with a dedicated group of forty professionals who volunteered as trainers, mentors, curriculum developers, and Advisory Board members. The Bronx Christian Fellowship Church in the Bronx, New York, hosted CTER’s first Job Search training program.

In 2009, the program expanded to New York City's Workforce1 Career Centers and in 2015, CTER launched its employment initiative for veterans, members of the National Guard and Reserve, and their family members. Veterans programs are partially supported by grants from the TD Charitable Foundation and Signature Bank.

Organizations such as the Association for Talent Development, Association for Executive Search Consultants, New York City SHRM, Urban Financial Services Coalition and the New York City Veterans Alliance are among CTER's affiliates.

Through its network of volunteer professionals who continue as trainers, workshop leaders and mentors, its strong affiliations with community and professional organizations and its employer partners, CTER reliably serves the needs of NYC businesses and job seekers.

Past awards:

Simply saying 'thank you' for the wonderful workshop that you conducted last week seems to fall short. We received such great feedback on the work that you did and especially the quick follow-up you provided by email on the resumes. CTER is providing a great service and we feel privileged to be a part of this effort. We look forward to working together in the future. Basil Daley, Ephesus Church
